The bats you buy from us are superbly made to look and perform like no other. Every bat is meticulously checked and it’s not until we are sure of its quality, durability and performance that we will allow it to leave our care. Our bats are made from top grade Willow which by nature is a soft fibrous wood, with a honeycomb like cell structure. All our bats are handmade with a concave profile and a subtle bow, creating an exaggerated sweet spot and superb pick-up. Our aim is to produce a bat that combines excellent hitting power with durability. This combination is not easily attained. Once the cleft has been correctly graded the next stage is pressing. The willow fibres honeycomb structure needs to be compressed to strengthen the blade sufficiently to withstand impact. Pressing is a delicate balance between strengthening the willow and leaving the bat with good hitting qualities. Each blade is individually pressed at up to 2,000lbs per square inch, but appreciation of each cleft is essential to determine the correct pressure. A harder pressed bat has had the willow compressed more, and is therefore likely to last longer but often the hitting power is compromised. Softer pressed bats tend to “go well” but are more likely to crack. This is where Bulldog prides itself on supplying you with a bat that offers superb ball striking qualities. 2009 Bats and Willow Grades Basher Description: The Basher is made to the same specification as many more expensive bats. They are superbly balanced and have excellent grains. There may be some minor blemishes and discolouration, which are all part of the beauty of this beautiful natural material. This is the willow grade we use for all our Junior and Harrow Bats. Willow Grade: Grade 2 Profile: Bow Blade for improved timing. High spine and concave profile gives strong contoured edges. Large middle with a massive sweet spot. Handle: Traditional Cane handle with triple rubber insert. Short handle only. Grip Colour: Black. Unbleached English willow clefts are selected for weight and superior grain structure. The new Pedigree is a modern day classic. Shaped with an enormous “Jumbo” profile and a slight bow with strong tapered edges. A massive sweet spot gives maximum shot performance. Pedigree Plus Description: The specification of the “Plus” is exactly the same as above, but these bats are made from the finest kiln dried clefts.
